Baseball Unveils 2013 Schedule

The Shippensburg University baseball team and head coach Matt Jones have announced the 2013 schedule. The Raiders are coming off a season in which they achieved their most wins in five years and finished among the final four teams at the PSAC Baseball Championships.

Matt Jones

Head Coach

Shippensburg head baseball coach Matt Jones enters his fifth year with the Raiders having led his squads to 103 wins, a conference title, division title, regional title and a Division II World Series appearance along with three PSAC tournament appearances.

The Red Raiders have become known for outstanding defense and pitching with Jones as the head coach. Shippensburg led the PSAC in fielding percentage during the 2007 and 2008 seasons while ranking second in 2009. The team averaged just 63 errors per season over from 2007-09, an average of just 1.1 per game, while succeeding with at least 96 percent of their chances during that time. On the mound, Shippensburg was among the Top 7 PSAC programs in terms of earned-run average.

After guiding his 2008 squad to the fourth Division II World Series appearance in school history and first since 1996, Jones was named the 2008 ABCA/Diamond Sports Company NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and the 2008 NCBWA North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Shippensburg finished the 2008 regular season as the champions of the PSAC Western Division with a 14-6 conference record that helped voters select Jones as the PSAC Western Division Coach of the Year. Through 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Jones has received a total of six coach of the year awards.

That season, Jones' program broke 12 single-season school records, 11 individual season records and 11 career records. Five players were named to an All-North Atlantic Region squad while the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Daktronics and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) named Matt Wright the North Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year.

Adam Sheibley

Assistant Coach

Adam Sheibley joins the Raider coaching staff for the 2013 season as the team's primary assistant coach. Sheibley will serve as the teams recruiting coordinator and work with hitting and base-running in addition to instructing the infield. He replaces Kurt Elbin and Corey Haines, who are now at VCU and Maryland, respectively.

Sheibley, a Landisburg native, joins Shippensburg after two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Elizabethtown College. E-Town achieved 39 victories with Sheibley on staff.

With the Blue Jays, Sheibley was active in player development, scouting and recruiting while focusing his instruction toward hitting, fielding and base-running. He also developed off-season conditioning programs for each player.

His additional coaching experience includes work with instructional camps and showcases at Bucknell, Virginia, Delaware and Shippensburg and for companies such as Baseball Factory and Elite Baseball.

Kevin Scholly

Assistant Coach

Kevin Scholly, last year's team captain, joins the Red Raider coaching staff in 2011. In addition to serving as the first base coach, Scholly will also be a valuable hitting instructor and work with the infielders.

During a four-year career with the Red Raiders, Scholly hit .263 with eight home runs, 84 RBIs and 80 runs scored while primarily serving as a first baseman and a third baseman. He appeared in 168 games, made 153 starts and a .979 career fielding percentage.

Scholly was an All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team pick at first base during his sophomore season of 2008 when the Red Raiders advanced to the Division II College World Series. That season, Scholly started 62 games - batting cleanup in all but four - while hitting .288 and posting a .414 on-base percentage. He was named to the all-tournament team at the North Atlantic Regional Championships and finished the year with just one error.

Scholly, a native of State College, graduated from Shippensburg in 2010 with a degree in finance. He is seeking his master's degree at Shippensburg while working at Letterkenny Army Depot.
