USA Baseball NTIS Southern Ca Camps Frequently Asked Questions:

What is USA Baseball

Since 1978, USA Baseball has been the national governing body for the sport of baseball. It represents the sport in the United States as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and internationally as a member federation of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF).

Nearly every major national amateur baseball organization in America is united as a USA Baseball National Member Organization. As a result, USA Baseball governs more than 12 million amateur players in ballparks and playgrounds across the country. As the commissioner's office for amateur baseball, USA Baseball is a resource center for its various membership groups, fans, and players. USA Baseball is also responsible for promoting and developing the game of baseball on the grassroots level, both nationally and internationally.

What is the current international age determination date

The current international age determination date rule states your birthday must fall on January 1 or later of a specified year to be eligible for particular age groups. The age a player reaches during the calendar year of the international competition will serve as his competition age.

(For example, if your son/daughter wants to play on the 16U National team in 2018, he/she must be 16 years old or younger during the entire calendar year. If your son/daughter would turn 17 on December 1 of 2018, he/she would not be eligible to participate with the 16U National Team because his/her competition age would be 17, regardless of his/her age during the time of the tournament.)

• 2017 17U NTIS: born on or after Jan. 1, 2000, for the 2018 18U National Team
• 2017 16U NTIS: born on or after Jan. 1, 2001, for the 2018 17U NTDP

How will this year's 15U/16U/17U identification and selection process work?

Round #1: All age eligible players are welcomed to attend one or more identification tryouts within the Southern California NTIS territory. These identification tryouts will be a blend of a combine style format and college level practice. Workouts will include 60 yd run, defensive skills assessment, batting practice, home to 1B times, pop times and arm velocities. Pitchers will perform a 20-25 pitch bullpen as well as pitchers fielding practice (PFP) and other team oriented defensive drills. NO LIVE GAMES will occur during these identification tryouts. In addition, NO PLAYER will be allowed to bypass Round #1.

Round #2: The top invited 15U/16U/17U players from the various Round #1 identification tryouts will advance to a 1 day Southern California NTIS Regional Tryout on Thursday, June 29, 2017 or Monday, July 10, 2017 at Hart Park in Orange, CA (invited players will be allowed to choose the tryout date that best fits their schedule). Players will go through a pro-style workout prior to live game. Out of this final event the top 18 players for 15U, top 18 players for 16U and top 10 players for 17U will be selected to represent Team Southern California in Cary, NC.

Round #3: These final 18 15U and final 18 16U selected players will then compete against 15 other regions from across the country at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC on August 17-20, 2017.

This event will feature a pro-style instructional format inclusive of game play as well as on field instruction break-out sessions with Team USA coaching staff.
