Ron Hall

Varsity Head Coach 

Coach Hall becomes Rio’s Head Varsity Baseball Coach after a number of years coaching college baseball and high school baseball including coaching stints in the California Community College ranks (Cerritos College and Cypress College), NAIA (Azusa Pacific University) and the Division 1 level (University of Utah).

Coach Hall has also coached various American Legion and Connie Mack summer teams as well as in the Cape Cod Summer League, home of the best college talent in the country (Brewster Whitecaps). Recently he spent the Summer of 2018 coaching in the Northwoods Collegiate League (Green Bay Bullfrogs). He has coached a variety of young men that have gone onto play at the College, Minor League and at the Major League level. A number of his former players have also gone on to coach at the high school, college and professional levels.

Along with his coaching experience he brings a great deal of knowledge in instruction. Coach Hall was the former National Director for America’s Baseball Camps, which puts on camps all across the country. He has also held individual instruction and been an Associate Scout for the San Francisco Giants.

Phil Grawey

Varsity Assistant Coach 

Coach Grawey joins Rio’s program for his third season. His first being in 2017 as an Assistant Coach with the Freshmen Team.

Coach Grawey has coached and or managed youth baseball for the past 5 seasons, 3 of those seasons on All Star Coaching staffs.

Along with coaching at the youth levels Coach Grawey’s been apart of the Sacramento based West Coast Premier Baseball where he runs weekly instructional clinics preparing young players to get to the next level.

Coach Grawey played his High School Baseball at Casa Roble High School in Orangevale, Ca. He was selected to the High School All City Team in 1987 and that same year set the California state record for consecutive stolen bases.

After this playing career was over. Coach Grawey traveled around the West Coast playing slow pitch softball in major tournaments.

He’s been married to his beautiful wife since 1998 and has a daughter 15 and son 13.

Carlos Munoz

Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Munoz graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1999. At CB he was a 2 year varsity starter on the baseball team.

He began his coaching career immediately after high school, coaching for Natomas Pony Baseball.

In 2002 was offered the head JV baseball coach at Natomas High School. While coaching at NHS, he coached a competitive high school summer team called the Natomas Indians. Composed of high school players from the greater Sacramento area.

In 2007 Coach Munoz started the Sacramento Blue Devils Travel Baseball Club. By 2010 the Sacramento Blue Devils Travel Baseball Club had grown from 1 team to 7 teams. After running the Blue Devils baseball club for 6 years he stepped away from the program to go back and coach high school baseball at Christian Brothers. While at CB he coached on all three levels (Frosh, JV and Varsity)

Coach Munoz has two children. His son Carlos will be attending the University of Oregon in the fall, and his daughter Alyce is a Junior at Christian Brothers High School.

He enjoys spending his spare time with his family, traveling and trying to attend as many sporting events as possible.

Richard Johnson

Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Johnson graduated from Cal Poly Pomona, Cum Laude in Construction Engineering. He worked for AT&T for 33 years as a Senior Project Manager in Building Engineering and Property Management.

Rich has been coaching baseball since 1987 and the last 12 years with the Raider Baseball. He’s a long time member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and previously sat on the Board of Directors for Rancho Cordova Little League for 10 years.

He had served the Sacramento Men’s Baseball League for 12 years as their Field Maintenance and Equipment Manager.

Coach Johnson is a current member of The Sports Turf Management Association and has been for the past 6 years.

He’s married to his beautiful wife Emma and has a son Grant and a step son Michael Perez.

Dan Christenson

Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Christenson has assisted with coaching Sacramento youth baseball for the past 6 seasons, including 3 seasons of All Star coaching.

For the past two years, Coach Christenson has assisted Coach Grawey with his Sacramento based West Coast Premier Baseball, assisting with clinics, conditioning, and team play.

Coach Christenson played high school baseball during all four years of attending Encina High School in Sacramento, Ca.

Dan and his wife Lisa have been married for 17 years. They have a 16 year old daughter that attends Rio and a son age 12.

Tobrin Hewitt

Junior Varsity Head Coach

Coach Hewitt has coached and managed youth baseball for the past 3 seasons. He volunteered as a manager for his alma mater little league East Sac when he retired from the U.S. Army in 2014. This will be his third year with the Rio Baseball program.

He played high school baseball at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento, CA. He also played at Sacramento CIty College and Cosumnes River College.

Coach Hewiit is currently the Service to the Armed Forces Manager for the American Red Cross and is married to his wife since 1992. He has two daughters who are currently attending Sacramento State and American River College.

Aaron Dean

Freshmen Assistant Coach

Coach Dean attended Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton Ca. He graduated in 1997 and was a 2 time All Conference Pitcher. In 1998 he went on to play at Canada College in Redwood City and was a starting pitcher on team that made it to the final 4 in Fresno Ca. In 1999 he transferred to Sacramento City College where his team won the Ca. State Championship. His record was 13-1 as a Junior College starting pitcher and he collected All Conference and All State 1st team selection honors.

After Junior College he went on to have a 6 year professional career with the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. He was a New York Penn League All Star in 1999, South Atlantic League All Star in 2000, Florida State League All Star in 2001 and compiled over 630 innings and 34 wins in 6 year career.

In 2009 Aaron Coached a 16u team for BMP Academy at the Junior Olympics in Surprise, Arizona and in 2015 he coached a 17u team for Walbeck Baseball Academy at the Under Armour Classic in Azusa California.

Coach Dean currently coaches his sons little league majors team for Arden LL. He is married to wife Sharon and his son Carter is now 11.

When not coaching the Rio Junior Varsity and at Arden LL, he enjoys golfing, fishing and watching movies in his spare time.

Van Sarantis

Junior Varsity Assistant Coach

Van is a Sacramento native that went to La Sierra HSD in Carmichael, graduated from Aptos High School in Aptos, Ca and earned a degree from Sacramento State University. He has been a dedicated volunteer for youth baseball and has been around the game his entire life, managing and coaching Little League, Seniors and Babe Ruth teams for the past 14 years.

Coach Sarantis owns an advertising agency, Carma Marketing, specializing in automotive advertising here in Sacramento.

He has two sons, Steven a former Raider Baseball Player (2017) and Tim a current Raider Baseball Player (2020)

John Heim

Freshmen Head Coach

John is a Sacramento native who graduated from Christian Brothers High School and earned his degree from Sacramento State. He has been coaching youth baseball since 1990. He has been a head coach for East Sacramento Little League, East Sacramento Babe Ruth, Eastern Little League and Arden Park Little League.

From 1997 to 1999, he was an Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Elk Grove High School, where he coached in the playoffs every year, including on the staff of the 1997 San-Joaquin Section Division I Champions. From 2002 through 2006, he was Head JV Baseball Coach at Woodland High School. He also served on the Woodland Varsity coaching staff during the playoffs all four years, including the 2006 San-Joaquin Section Division II Champions.

He has always focused on fundamentals, having fun and has strived to help every player to play to the best of their ability, numerous players have gone on to play college and professional baseball. He is currently Head Coach of the Sacramento Capitols Orange 13U team.

John has been married to his wife Kathleen since 2006 and their son Chet attends Arden Middle School.

Grant Johnson

Freshmen Assistant Coach

Coach Johnson was a Freshmen Assistant Coach for the Raider Program in the 2011-2012 season. He has been a member of the American Baseball Coaching Association for the past 8 years.

He graduated from Rio in 2010 and during his time at Rio he played baseball all four years. In 2009 Coach Johnson was voted to the 1st team Capital Athletic League.

After High School he attended Arizona State University and studied Business and Sustainability.

John Fedota

Freshmen Assistant Coach

In 1976 Coach Fedota began coaching career with Atlantic Little League in Fairfield CA, Coaching T-Ball, Minor & Major Divisions, Pony Colt, & Senior Babe Ruth Baseball. He coached 4 years of Varsity Girls Softball at Buckingham Charter High School in Vacaville CA bringing 3 League Championships to the school. Coac Fedota also has 15 years of coaching youth football from junior pee-wees to freshman football.

He was the Head Coach Varsity Baseball at Vacaville Christian High School with a record of 26-5 including a Section Championship.

In addition from 1995 – 2017 John held the position of Assistant Pastor, Lead Pastor, Missionary to Europe holding baseball camps at middle school & high school baseballs in Austria.

Since 2018 he hs been the area Representative for The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, for Rancho Cordova, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Placerville.

Coach Fedota has been married to my wife Sherry for the past 42 years. He has 3 children, 2 sons Jason 49, Tony 42, 1 daughter Angela 41. He also has 7 grandchildren, Jacob Michael, Joey 23, Tristan Jordan 20, Matthew 20, Joe 19 (Former Raider Baseball Player), Caylee 19 and Jack 14.
