Pitch Pioneer

Are you looking to become a dominant pitcher? Do you want to take your game to the next level? Coach Wayne Mazzoni and the Pitch Pioneer program will get you there. The program is designed to help pitchers improve top velocity and become a dominant presence on the mound. We do this through improving strength, power, mobility, and mental & physical resiliency. Every pitcher knows the big picture what you need to success on the mound.

WHAT IS PITCH PIONEER?

Pitch Pioneer is a 2-day pitching clinic developed to help pitchers who are committed to their craft. Over the course of the clinic, athletes are evaluated by experts in the fields of baseball, strength and conditioning, biomechanics, and orthopedics to help develop an individualized program designed to increase their top velocity, improve their technique, and reduce injury. The end result is a pitcher with a dominant presence on the mound. Space is limited, so sign up today!

WHATS IN IT FOR ME?

Over the course of the clinic, each athlete will receive a comprehensive evaluation including pitching, biomechanical, physiological, and orthopedic assessments from a current Division 1 baseball coach, faculty from the SHU Exercise Science program with biomechanics and exercise physiology specialization, certified athletic trainers, and physical therapists. The weekend will include over 12 hours of lectures and hands-on experiences.

Lecture Topics

  • Pitching The Mental Game
  • Flexibility and mobility for pitchers
  • Strength training for the elite pitcher
  • Tools for increasing mound velocity
  • Arm care and injury prevention

Athlete Analysis

  • Biomechanical Assessment using state of the art motion capture system
  • Movement screen to assess movement quality and identify dysfunction
  • Force deck testing for lower body power
  • Body composition testing using the Gold Standard BodPod

Additional Benefits

  • A conversation with coach Mazzoni about the Division 1/Collegiate recruiting process
  • Talks by licensed physical therapists regarding common throwing injuries, causes, and prevention strategies .
  • Individualized program designed around the results from your assessment
  • Hands-on sections to really grasp the nature of the content for the weekend
  • Lunch Provided on-site each day
  • SWAG Bag for each participant

**Once the athlete profile is developed, each athlete will receive an individualized performance program, designed to help them reach their potential.**

The challenge with achieving all of the above comes with knowing the how, why and when regarding successful strategies to actually work towards these qualities.

What does strength actually mean for a baseball player, and specifically a pitcher?

What is flexibility? Cant I just stretch more?

Shouldnt I just pitch more to throw harder?

Are injuries just part of the game or is there anything I can do to reduce the likelihood of getting one?

Is my resistance band routine enough to keep my rotator cuff strong and healthy?

These are all questions that may seem complicated or confusing to the young athlete. There are simple, safe and effective strategies that you can employ that will improve your level of success. Success here meaning moving you towards your specified goal.

We are big believers in being brilliant at the basics if you can get an accurate assessment of where you stand today, then there are straightforward habits that, when done consistently, produce very predictable outcomes.

What we plan to do with this weekend course is put you through the individualized assessment, along with providing in-depth analysis, general information and a program that you can do on your own that is geared towards hitting your marks.

No more guessing when you go to the gym or to the field. Have a plan, and execute that plan fiercely and you wont have any choice but to get stronger, more explosive and more mentally prepared to have success on the mound.

The Pioneer Performance Center at Sacred Heart University has partnered with Sacred Heart pitching coach Wayne Mazzoni to offer this clinic to give you the tools needed to get to your next level.
