Jack McDowell

 

Coach

Amateur career
McDowell attended Notre Dame High School[in Sherman Oaks, California. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 20th round of the 1984 MLB Draft but did not sign.

He chose to attend Stanford University, where he was the co-Freshman of the Year in 1985, a 2nd team All-American in 1986 and a 3rd team All-American in 1987. He led the Cardinal to the 1987 College World Series championship.

Chicago White Sox
McDowell was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the first round (fifth pick) of the 1987 amateur draft. After only six games in the minor leagues, he made his Major League debut on September 15, 1987. He pitched seven shutout innings against the Minnesota Twins that day to pick up the win. In four starts, he was 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA.

By the early 1990s, he had established himself as one of the most dependable pitchers in the game, pitching effectively and recording over 250 innings each season from 1991 to 1993, he was selected to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game each of those years. He won 20 games in 1992 and 22 in 1993, when he won the American League Cy Young Award and led the White Sox to the postseason (they lost in the 1993 American League Championship Series to the Toronto Blue Jays). From 1988 until 1995, his season ERA was consistently between 3.00 and 4.00, well below the league average. In 1993, he set a modern (post-1950) record by recording a decision in each of his first 27 starts.

New York Yankees
After the 1994 season McDowell was traded to the New York Yankees for minor league pitcher Keith Heberling and outfielder Lyle Mouton.

Cleveland Indians
McDowell spent 1996-1997 with Cleveland Indians.

Anaheim Angels
He signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Angels in 1998 but was hampered with injuries during his time with the team. He was 5-7 with a 5.68 ERA in 18 starts over two seasons with Anaheim.

Coaching career
In 2014 managed the Los Angeles Dodgers Rookie League affiliate, the Ogden Raptors, in the Pioneer Baseball League. In 2015, he was named manager of the Arizona League Dodgers.

Currently, Jack resides in Charlotte, NC where he is on staff & coaches at Carolinas Baseball Center.

Steve Miller- Maryland

 

State Sectional Coordinator/Coach

Graduated from Dematha High School and attended the University of Maryland. In 1983 was selected in the 13th round of the MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants. Played for six years with both the Giants and Padres. Has continued his involvement with MLB through scouting. He served as the Mid Atlantic Scout for the Detroit Tigers and is currently an Associate Scout for the K.C Royals. In addition Steve is the Co-Founder of Mid Atlantic Tournament Baseball and the head coach of the Rawlings A's Prospects - Maryland National Team.

Sean Lomas

 

State Sectional Coordinator - South Carolina

Sean Lomas was born and raised in Brewster, New York. He was an All American Athlete in both baseball & basketball coming out of Immaculate High School in Danbury, Ct. He was still offered a free agent pro contract out of high school but chose on accepting a full scholarship to division 1 Marist College. Sean was the starting shortstop for Marist in 1998-1999. He then transferred to University of Maryland where he started at shortstop in 2000-2001. He continued in baseball after his playing career with his Rawlings Stars program. Sean is the Rawlings National Clubs East Coast Director. Coach Lomas also scouted with KC Royals for a few years and was the KC Royals Scout Team head coach in 2012-2013. In 2012, he started the Beach Collegiate Baseball League in Myrtle Beach. The league is entering its 6th season this summer. Sean is married to his wife Marcela & they have three children, Tyler, 9, Jayden, 6, & Isla, 1.

Guy Civitello

 

Raleigh North Carolina - State Sectional Coordinator

Guy is entering his fifth season as head coach at Leesville Road High School. In his first four seasons as head coach, the Pride won 57 games. In 2015 Coach Civitello led his team to a CAP 8 Conference Championship and to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs. Also, in 2015 Coach Civitello's team participated in the National High School Invitational put on by USA Baseball. Coach Civitello served as the Varsity Assistant Coach for one year with the Pride before being named the head coach in 2013.

Along with coaching at Leesville Road, Guy coaches in the Evoshield Canes Showcase organization. While coaching within the Canes organization, Coach Civitello has led his teams to 2 National Championships (14U BCS PG National Championship and 14U USA Baseball Championship) and numerous other tournament championships and top finishes. Prior to coming to Leesville Road, Coach Civitello served as the head Junior Varsity baseball coach for the Panther Creek Catamounts from 2008-2011. Guy is originally from North Haven, CT where he coached in the Connecticut Bombers AAU baseball organization and also at Guilford High School from 2003-2007. In 2007, Guy helped lead the Guilford Indians to the 2007 SCC Tournament Championship and Class L State Championship. Guy currently resides in Apex, NC with his wife, Karen and two sons, Gaetano and Luca.
