Jimmy Walker enters his 4th year with the Halos organization. In 2012 he managed the So Cal Halos in the Central Coast Baseball League and led them to the League Championship. This is also the 2nd time Coach Walker will be a manager in the California Collegiate League, having managed the Montery BaySox in the summer of 2006. Currently he is the Pitching Coach and Associate Athletic Director at Ventura College.
Before taking the job at Ventura College, Walker was the Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard. In only his second season at the helm of the Saints Baseball program, the team earned the 1st CIF-Southern Section playoff berth in 20 years, won its 1st playoff games in 21 years and had a player, Patrick Herrera; earn ALL-CIF Southern Section honors. For his teams’ success, the coaches of the Frontier League voted Coach Walker, Coach of the Year. Santa Clara also won a Frontier LEague title in 2014 and lost in the 2nd round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.
Before coming to the Halos, Coach Walker was the Assistant Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Cal State Monterey Bay, a NCAA Division II baseball program. From 2005 to 2010, Coach Walker recruited 2 All-West Region players, 4 All-Conference players, helped sign 3 players to professional contracts, and coached 29 All-Conference All-Academic players. His on-field duties included coaching the pitchers and catchers, running the teams’ offense, and being Director of Camps and Clinics.
Preceding his tenure at CSUMB, Coach Walker was the pitching coach at Monterey High School helping them to a 3rd place section finish in 2004 and a section championship in 2005. 3 of his pitchers went on to play Division I college baseball at Texas, Cal and Long Beach State respectively.
Coach Walker began his coaching career in 2003 as the pitching coach at Monterey Peninsula College. He helped the team to a then school record with wins in a season at 29. One of his former pitchers, Daniel Barone, went on to pitch for the Florida Marlins in 2006.
Jimmy Walker’s baseball background includes being the Director of Player Development and Head Catching Instructor for the Aldrete Baseball Academy from 1998 to 2005. His duties included running the college-prep program for academy members, placing players onto college programs, individual lesson instruction, and coaching numerous travel teams.
Coach Walker played college baseball at Monterey Peninsula College (1998-1999) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (2000-2001). He also played professionally for the San Angelo Colts (Texas-Louisiana League, 2001), Duluth-Superior Dukes, and Kansas City T-Bones (Northern League, 2002-2003).
He graduated from CSUMB in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and has a Master’s of Education with an emphasis in Sports Management and Leadership from NorthCentral University (2010). He resides in Ventura and is currently married to the former Karly Castro, the junior varsity girl’s basketball coach at Ventura High School.
Charles grew up in Oxnard, Ca. Played varsity four years at Channel Islands high school earning all county and all league honors. Played at UCLA for three years where he was named bruins defensive player of the year playing center field. Drafted in 2000 in the 17th round by Rockies as a pitcher. The left hander played for 3 years for the Rockies, and 5 years of pro ball with a fastball reaching 97 MPH.
Chris was a long time high school football coach at Santa Paula High where he played and coached some of the most succesful teams in the school’s history, He has made a name for himself in the basball world by partnering up with some of the most respested men in baseball.
In 2009, Chris teamed up with Ventura County legend Jim Colborn and co founded the Jim Colborn Baseball League and was the player agent for the league. With the success of the league Chris then became the general manager and co-founder of the Texas Rangers Scout team which was managed by Texas Ranger scout Todd Guggiana.
In 2011 Chris joined forces with Bill Pintard – Angels/Yankees scout and Santa Barbara legend. They started the SoCal Halos. The teams were HIGHLY succesful in its first season and are now involved in year round sessions to help develop the best players throughout Southern California and help get them to the next level. We have a number of highly recruited SoCal Halos in the MLB and Collegiate D1 programs. Chris is also the owner of the SoCal Halos teams and president of the Premier College Baseball League
Chris’s son Aaron was an All-CIF baseball player at Santa Paula High and currently plays college baseball. Chris also has 2 beautiful teenage daughters, Alyssa and Ashley who are actively involved in school sports, theatre, band and school goverment. He resides in Santa Paula with his children.
