The 2013 UCSB Gaucho Winter Prospect Camp offers players the opportunity to receive quality instruction from the Gaucho Baseball Academy coaching staff, which includes members of the UCSB coaching staff, along with potential camp workers from Santa Barbara City College, Occidental, and Westmont.
The campers will be put onto teams that they stay with through the camp. This will allow coaches to have a closer relationship with the players and be able to provide better feedback and instruction throughout the camp.
Our prospect camps are not designed to be just a showcase; they are designed to be a practice. We expect the campers to come with a desire to learn, and we show up ready to teach, just like we do during one of our team practices. Our camp staff is hired to coach the campers, not just evaluate. We promote the idea of the campers taking some things they learn with them back to their high schools to integrate into their daily routines individually and as a team.
Day 1: Players will go through a pro style workout Saturday. The workout includes defensive and offensive evaluations, as well as timed 60 yard dashes. During evaluations, campers will be split into groups for position specific defensive instruction.
The afternoon will be dedicated to a competitive scrimmage rotation, which includes two teams playing each other on the field, cage work, defensive skill work, and "chalk talks" about various baseball and college topics. Each "team" will have two coaches who will be with them on the field, in the cage, and other rotations. The coaches are there to coach the campers through in-game situations offensively and defensively as well as giving hitting or defensive instruction in the cages. Players who are "pitcher only" will receive pitching instruction during position training and also during the scrimmage as we have a coach dedicated to work with the "pitcher only" group.
Day 2: Players will receive position specific defensive and offensive training with Gaucho Academy coaches in the morning. After we have covered both offense and defense, we will scrimmage.

Video sales is the newest component of the Gaucho Baseball Academy. We take video of you performing during our camp and host it online (on a password protected site not viewable by anyone but you and those you send it to) for you to access with one click of a button. You have the ability to view and share the video with one click as many times as you want to with no additional cost.
There are two video packages available for purchase: skills and coach analysis. Your skills video is footage from camp of you performing a skill, (pitching, hitting, or defense) that you can view or send to other college coaches. Coach analysis video includes selected clips of your swing, defensive, or pitching footage put together with a coach analyzing it as if you were having a one-on-one session with a college coach. The coach will use slow motion, telestrations, and audio comments to break down your skill/mechanics while screen recording it all. Note: the coach analysis package includes the coach's audio; it is not a separate purchase.

You will receive whichever video package you purchase within 10 days of the completion of camp. Video must be purchased at time of camp registration.
** You need to indicate on your registration which skill you want us to take video of. You have the option to add another skill for an extra charge.
Each camper must bring his own baseball equipment. Players should be properly equipped; a glove, hat, bat, cleats, running shoes, baseball pants, belt, and socks. Helmets will be provided.
Please check your email regularly as this is our primary way we communicate. Any additional information that we need to convey as the camp draws closer will be passed on to you via the e-mail address that you supplied when you signed up for camp. Please make it a habit to check your e-mail daily, this will eliminate any confusion and or miscommunication.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch the camp from the stands.
The camp is open to any and all entrants. Limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender.
Check in for camp will begin at 9:30am at the main entrance behind home plate.

Parking is not free. If you are staying make sure you purchase a ticket through one of the automated machines.

What if I have to cancel a camp?
We do not offer refunds on cancelled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection". We offer basic Cancellation Protection to allow participants some peace of mind in case plans change. This allows us to keep our prices low and provide the best service possible. Due at the time of registration, Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of camp fees should you cancel your registration more than 14 days prior to the start of an overnight camp, and 7 days prior to the start of a day camp. If you cancel within 14 or 7 days of the start of your session, we will give you a camp credit for all money paid. The credit is valid for three years from camp date. Credit with insurance is transferable to family members or friends, and good toward a future camp.
