Camp Description

 

Take your game to a higher level as you refine your pitching or catching skills at this camp designed for pitchers and catchers in grades 8-12.

Pitchers will learn the mechanics and grips of pitching as well as have live throwing and defense sessions. Catchers will learn the art of the catching position including receiving, blocking, and throwing.

General Information

 

There is no down time in baseball and what better time than now to register to attend a Spanky McFarland Baseball Camp at James Madison University!

Goals:

Pitchers
1. Improve command of pitches
2. Improve velocity
3. Fine tune delivery
4. Improve pitch selection
5. Develop personal pitching plan for success
6. Create winning mental approach

Catchers
1. Improve pop time to second base
2. Fine tune mechanics of blocking, throwing, and receiving
3. Leadership skills
4. Winning mental approach

Equipment
Each camper must bring his own baseball equipment. Players should bring a glove, bat, cleats/spikes, running shoes or turf shoes, hat, and any other equipment they feel necessary to compete. Catchers gear (Catchers only). Helmets will be provided.

Opportunity to meet, learn and be evaluated by the current JMU coaches

Camp Check-in

 

Camp check-in takes place 30 minutes prior to the start of each camp.

Camp Waiver Information

 

Each participant must fill out the medical history/insurance form prior to starting camp. Please turn in form at registration check in.

Certified athletic trainers will be on-site for all camps.

Directions

 

Camp will be conducted at:
Memorial Hall - Harrisonburg, Va

Directions: Memorial Hall (formerly Harrisonburg High School) is located on the western edge of JMU's campus. Enter building on the North side at the gymnasium, directly across the parking lot from Veterans' Memorial Stadium, JMU's new baseball/softball complex.

From the South: I-81 to Exit 245, turn left (West) onto Port Republic Rd. Cross Main St. (US-11) and turn right onto High St. (Rt. 42). Memorial Hall on left at intersection with Cantrell Ave.

From the North: I-81 to Exit 247B onto US-33 West. Move to left lane and turn left at first light onto Cantrell Ave. Follow Cantrell past much of JMU campus, Rockingham Memorial Hospital, and crossing Main St. (US-11) until Cantrell dead ends at High St. (Rt. 42). Memorial Hall will be straight ahead.

Meals

 

Lunch will not be provided. Please bring a sack lunch from home.

Merchandise

 

Campers will have the opportunity to purchase JMU Baseball hats and shirts.

Miscellaneous Information

 

What if I have to cancel a camp?
We do not offer refunds on cancelled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection". We offer basic Cancellation Protection to allow participants some peace of mind in case plans change. This allows us to keep our prices low and provide the best service possible. Due at the time of registration, Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of camp fees should you cancel your registration more than 14 days prior to the start of an overnight camp, and 7 days prior to the start of a day camp. If you cancel within 14 or 7 days of the start of your session, we will give you a camp credit for all money paid. The credit is valid for three years from camp date. Credit with insurance is transferable to family members or friends, and good toward a future camp.
