Tim Wheeler earns four All American Honors

College Baseball Camps

Sacramento State junior outfielder Tim Wheeler has been honored by four organizations, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) , Baseball America, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Ping Baseball, as a 2009 Division I All-American.

Wheeler, who was a preseason third team All-American, earned second team recognition from the ABCA as well as Baseball America. He was also recognized by the NCBWA and Ping Baseball as a third team selection. He was the first player to earn All-American honors for the Hornets since Harvey Hargrove earned third team honors in 1997.

The Sacramento native and El Camino HS product set many firsts this season for the Hornets, including becoming the baseball program's first-ever first round draft pick, after being selected No. 32 overall by the Colorado Rockies. Wheeler also became the school's first two-time first team all-Western Athletic Conference selection, hitting .385 on the season with 18 home runs and 72 runs batted in, setting the school's single-season RBI record in the process. He also broke the school's all-time RBI mark in just three seasons, boasting 142 in his career. Wheeler hit .457 with runners in scoring position, and .451 with runners on base, while amassing 15 stolen bases and five outfield assists. Wheeler ranked in the top 30 nationally in six categories, with his highest ranking coming in RBI.

The ABCA award, co-sponsored by Rawlings, comes from the nation's coaches, who nominated and voted players onto all-region teams, which were then compiled into All-American teams by a committee of Division I head coaches chaired by Monmouth's Dean Ehehalt. The Baseball America award is voted on by the staff of the magazine following NCAA Super Regional play. These awards are two of the most prestigious in all of college baseball.

The NCBWA is composed of beat writers and sports information personnel from around the country, and has been awarding an All-American team since 1962. A relative newcomer to the baseball world, Ping Baseball has been providing collegiate baseball news and polls along with naming All-American teams since 2007.

Camp Details

All Sacramento State camps are open to any and all entrants per NCAA rules, but are limited as noted on the following camp flyer by number, age, grade level and/or gender.

This camp is targeted for the older baseball players ages 13-16 years old. The focus of this camp is to teach the advanced fundamentals to be a succesful baseball player. Each camper will be taught the advanced mechanics in hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, baserunning, and sportsmanship. We encourage young players of all skills and abilities to come and experience Hornet Baseball!

General Information

Times:
9:00am-3:00pm daily

Each Camper will Receive:
1. 24 hours of Top Division 1 Baseball Instruction
2. World Series format for games during camp
3. Hornet Baseball T-Shirt

Each camper must bring his own baseball equipment. Players should bring a glove, bat, batting gloves, helmet, cleats/spikes, running shoes or turf shoes, hat, and any other equipment they feel necessary to compete. Catchers must bring their own gear. Please mark name on all items. Hornet Baseball Camps will not be responsible for lost items.

Hornet Baseball Camps are designed to teach students solid fundamental baseball skills as well as to raise their level of understanding of the game of baseball. Our purpose is to provide each camper with the instruction and encouragement needed to develop individual skills to a greater level. In addition, we want the camper to be aware that individual skills are best utilized when they are incorporated into a team concept. We will emphasize how individuals work together on a field to form a baseball "team."

Directions

- Exit Eastbound Hwy. 50 at Howe/Power Inn Road. Veer right, following the California State University, Sacramento sign to Hornet Drive. At the light, take a left on College Town Drive. Hornet Baseball Field is about 200 yards past Hornet Stadium on the right.

- Exit Westbound Hwy. 50 at Howe/Power Inn Road straight ahead to College Town Drive. Once on College Town Drive, follow same directions as above.

- Exit Westbound Business 80 at J Street. Make at left turn on to J Street, and follow for about four miles. Enter the front entrance at CSUS and take a right on College Town Drive. Hornet Baseball Field is located about a quarter-mile on the left.

Meals at Camp

Campers may bring their own lunch or purchase the Hornet Baseball Camp lunch option for $25 for the week. You can purchase this option on the registration page.

Camp Accommodations

"This is not an "overnight" camp. Players traveling from out of town will be responsible for securing their own hotel accommodations."

Airport Pick-up / Drop-off Information

Sacramento International Airport is the closest airport. There will be no airport transportation offered for this event.

What if I have to cancel a camp?

We do not offer refunds on cancelled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection". We offer basic Cancellation Protection to allow participants some peace of mind in case plans change. This allows us to keep our prices low and provide the best service possible. Due at the time of registration, Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of camp fees should you cancel your registration more than 14 days prior to the start of an overnight camp, and 7 days prior to the start of a day camp. If you cancel within 14 or 7 days of the start of your session, we will give you a camp credit for all money paid. The credit is valid for three years from camp date. Credit with insurance is transferable to family members or friends, and good toward a future camp.

Q. What is your refund policy?

A. We do not offer refunds on canceled campers, just a future camp credit if you decide to cancel, but we do have what is called "Cancellation Protection".

Q. What should I bring to my baseball camp or showcase camp?

A. Many times the camp itself will have a recommended list of items to bring to camp, but here are a few things to help you. All position players should bring a bat and glove. Look like a baseball player by wearing a hat, jersey, belt, baseball socks, etc. You need to look the part. If you are a catcher, have your own gear. Hitters, bring your bat and helmet just in case. Don't expect to use the college's equipment and you must be ready to go! Borrow something from a teammate or coach if you do not have one.
