Lobo Baseball Ranks Second Nationally in Strength of Schedule

Lobos face tough slate in 2011.
The University of New Mexico baseball team has the nation's second toughest schedule in 2011 according to College Baseball 360. The Lobos are coming off their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 48 years and look to return in 2011. UNM, under the direction of head coach Ray Birmingham, will play a 56-game schedule that features four NCAA qualifiers from a year ago on the road.
The 2011 Lobo non-conference schedule includes a four-game series at Arizona State to open the year. UNM made history last season taking two of three from No. 1 Texas to kick off the season. The Lobos also have three games at Oklahoma State, two games at Arizona, three games at Gonzaga (NCAA '09), a four-game home and home series with Texas Tech, and a four-game series in May at 2010 CWS team Oklahoma.
New Mexico will face in-state rival New Mexico State twice before jumping into conference play.
The Lobos face San Diego State to open conference action on the road. UNM has a difficult conference slate that features a pair of three-game series against MWC rival TCU. UNM plays six of its last nine games at home in May.
Cal State Fullerton tops the list according to College Baseball 360. New Mexico is second, Oklahoma ranks third and Stanford is fourth. Arizona State rounds out the top 5.
