Flames Picked Second In Conference Baseball Poll

The Liberty Flames have been selected to finish second in the Big South Conference standings this season, as the league's annual preseason baseball poll was released this afternoon by the league's office. The poll is voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Liberty received all 10 second-place votes in garnering 90 points in the poll to be selected to finish second in the Big South Conference standings this spring. The Flames come off a record-setting 2010, recording the most wins in program history in a season with a 42-19 overall record. Liberty also finished Big South play with their most victories since joining the conference in 1992, posting a 19-8 record while finishing second in the league standings.
Liberty returns several key players from last season's squad, led by third baseman Tyler Bream and pitcher Steven Evans. Bream finished second in the voting for the Big South Preseason Player of the Year, while Evans, a senior left-hander, was runner-up in the voting for conference's Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
Four-time defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina was chosen to finish the year as the conference's top team. The Chanticleers received all 10 first-place votes and 100 total points in the poll. In addition, Coastal Carolina All-American pitcher Anthony Meo was voted the conference's Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while Chanticleer second baseman Tommy La Stella was selected as the Big South Preseason Player of the Year.
After Liberty, Winthrop was selected to finish third, garnering 68 points, while High Point was picked fourth in the voting with 63 points. Radford and VMI each received 61 points in being selected fifth, followed by Gardner-Webb in seventh place with 39 points. Charleston Southern (30 points) was listed in eighth, while UNC Asheville (26 points) and Presbyterian College (12 points) rounded out the voting.
