Former Longhorn Stubbs makes Major League Baseball debut

Drew Stubbs made his Major League Baseball debut on Wednesday, Aug. 19, becoming the 96th player to finish his collegiate career as a Longhorn and go on to appear in a Major League game.

Last Wednesday, Stubbs, who was called up by the Cincinnati Reds to help fill in for injured outfielder Willy Taveras, made his first big-league start at Great American Ballpark against the San Francisco Giants.

On Thursday, Stubbs followed with a 10th-inning walk-off home run off Giants reliever Bob Howry to give the Reds a 2-1 win over the Giants.

Stubbs was hitting .268 with three home runs for the Triple-A Louisville Bats before joining the Reds.

Stubbs was a three-year letterwinner at Texas from 2004-06. He was tabbed an All-America as a sophomore and junior and was named a Freshman All-America in 2004.

The centerfielder was a leading catalyst on the Longhorns' 2005 National Championship squad, earning third-team All-America accolades while batting .311 with 67 runs, 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 32 stolen bases as a sophomore.
