Tribe Alumnus, Joseph Plumeri, Named Recipient of the 2010 Robie Award
William and Mary alumnus and generous supporter of Tribe baseball, Joseph J. Plumeri II '66, will be one of four recipients of the 2010 Robie Award on Monday night at the Jackie Robinson Foundation's Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. The banquet pays tribute to individuals who embody the humanitarian ideals of Jackie Robinson and raises funds for the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
Along with Plumeri, Bud Selig, Paul Polman, and Jessye Norman will be honored by the Foundation, which provides generous, four-year college scholarships, graduate school grants, and extensive mentoring to academically distinguished minority students with financial need and records of leadership capacity.
"Each one of these honorees has positively impacted our global society not only through their impressive professional accomplishments, but by maintaining a commitment to equal opportunity and by generously sharing the fruits of their success with those less fortunate," said JRF President and CEO Della Britton Baeza. "These four individuals have profoundly embraced the same humanitarian ideals promoted by our beloved Jackie Robinson and we ourselves are honored to be able to pay tribute to them at this year's gala dinner."
Plumeri played both football and baseball during his four years at William and Mary, majoring in history and education before graduating and beginning a very successful career in the financial industry. He spent 32 years at Citigroup and its predecessor companies, including terms as the CEO of Citibanking North America (more than quadrupling the unit's financial performance in the space of a year) and as the CEO and Chairman of Travelers Primerica Financial Services division, growing the company's earnings from $180 million to $550 million in five years. Plumeri has spent the past eight and one-half years as the Chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings Limited, the oldest company in the insurance brokerage industry and the industry leader in growth under his tenure.
Plumeri's philanthropy to the Tribe has included not just the generous donation that allowed Plumeri Park to be built, but he also was the sponsor of the Plumeri Pro Am for 20 years, an event that generated over $1 million in support of William and Mary's Olympic Sports, and donated the funds to establish the Joe Plumeri Baseball Scholarship Endowment. Plumeri, who has recently finished his term as a member of the College's Board of Visitors (2000-2008), also has provided the school with The Plumeri House, which is used to host distinguished visitors to the College.

CWM Camp FAQs
Q. The difference between a showcase & a prospect camp?
A. Traditionally Prospect Camps are held by a specific college coaching staff looking to find players for their program only. A showcase invites many different college coaching staff's to attend thus the player is able to be seen by a wide variety of programs.

Q. What should I bring to my baseball camp or showcase camp?
A. Many times the camp itself will have a recommended list of items to bring to camp, but here are a few things to help you. All position players should bring a bat and glove. Look like a baseball player by wearing a hat, jersey, belt, baseball socks, etc. You need to look the part. If you are a catcher, have your own gear. Hitters, bring your bat and helmet just in case. Don't expect to use the college's equipment and you must be ready to go! Borrow something from a teammate or coach if you do not have one.
