Reardon Awarded ECAC Award of Valor
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today the four recipients of the ECAC Award of Valor. This year's winners are Liz Mancuso (Dartmouth College), Casey Pereira (University of Rhode Island), Conor Reardon (Brown University), and Dave Taraschi (Rutgers-Camden). They will receive their awards on Sunday, September 28, at the ECAC Convention Honors Dinner at the Albany Crowne Plaza.
Established in 1985, the ECAC Award of Valor honors ECAC athletes whose courage, motivation, and relentless determination serves as an inspiration to all. The recipients exemplify strength of character and perseverance deserving recognition as being truly triumphant.
After a decent rookie campaign on the Brown baseball team when he hit .286 with eight hits in 16 games, Reardon was hit by a car while at home in Connecticut in late 2005. Injuries sustained to his right leg were so severe that doctors considered amputating it, but were ultimately able to save it. While dealing with complications including nerve damage, vascular damage, and scar tissue buildup, Reardon has had five separate surgeries on the leg. Though he failed to see progress in his rehabilitation until the summer of 2007, he took batting practice that fall at the urging of two teammates, and despite two years of rust, found he could still hit. With this discovery Reardon decided to come back to the team.
Although Reardon still does not have full function in his leg, limiting him to duty as the designated hitter, and forcing him to the bench to rest when the pain becomes too severe, he was named the team's MVP after a fantastic season. A second team All-Northeast Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association, Reardon hit .395 to lead the Bears this season. He was also fifth in the Ivy League in batting average, and second on the team with a .443 on-base percentage. Reardon finished the season on a team-high 18-game hitting streak, and tied for the team lead with 20 multi-hit games.
Off the field Reardon shone as well, as he also earned first team All-Ivy and All-New England honors this spring. A history concentrator with a 3.94 GPA entering his final semester, Reardon was named an ESPN The Magazine second team Academic All-American by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). This fall, he will begin a two-year term with the Teach for America program.

BU Camp FAQs
Q. What should I bring to my baseball camp or showcase camp?
A. Many times the camp itself will have a recommended list of items to bring to camp, but here are a few things to help you. All position players should bring a bat and glove. Look like a baseball player by wearing a hat, jersey, belt, baseball socks, etc. You need to look the part. If you are a catcher, have your own gear. Hitters, bring your bat and helmet just in case. Don't expect to use the college's equipment and you must be ready to go! Borrow something from a teammate or coach if you do not have one.

Q. How do I prepare for a baseball camp or showcase?
A. Be in good physical and mental shape. As always you should be eating well with a proper diet for a athlete. Have your arm in shape and ready to go. Go into it with a positive attitude. Attending a college camp is a terrific opportunity to be evaluated by a college coaching staff and you want to be prepared.
