Swedes Baseball at Bethany College

The Bethany College baseball program has a tradition of excellence.Since 2000, the team earned NAIA regular season and pre-seasonrankings, two KCAC championships, two KCAC tournamentchampionships, one runner-up, and one finish as NAIA Region IVrunner-up


Andrew Bartman

Head Coach


Prior to coming to Bethany, Bartman served as the head baseball coach at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., for two years. He inherited a program with four returning players and a 3-30 record the previous year. Bartman went on to lead the Highlanders to the best two-year stretch in over a decade. He increased roster size, lowered pitching staff ERA, and increased playing field safety and aesthetics. Bartman also created youth camps, performed community service and hosted alumni events for baseball players.

Before coaching at MacMurray College, Bartman was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Lincoln College in Lincoln, Ill. He successfully recruited 14 new players to the team in the first year. His first recruiting class as freshman set program firsts of receiving national poll votes, best start in conference through 12 games, best overall start through 15 games and highest conference finish in 15 years. Bartman played baseball for Lincoln College as a catcher and first baseman and earned his associate of arts degree in May 2003.

Prior to Lincoln College, Bartman was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill., for three years. While at Wabash Valley, Bartman had the opportunity to recruit and coach over a dozen players that signed professional contracts, including current St. Louis Cardinals reliever Keith Butler. He created throwing schedules, created and implemented conditioning programs, called pitches, implemented training aids, and was responsible for daily motivation to achieve goals. In addition, he was the assistant dorm director and intramural director. He organized all aspects of the annual golf outing, managed all camp activities, coordinated recruiting efforts and maintained the team website.



Greg May

Assistant Coach


Greg May is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Swedes. May comes to Bethany with two years of coaching experience at the collegiate level and six at the high school level. May specializes in pitching, with more than seven years of experience teaching, developing, and training effective pitchers for various college and high school programs.

In summer 2014, May served as the head coach of the Cheyenne Grizzlies, a summer team affiliated with the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League. He recruited, signed, and created summer rosters, hired and managed coaching staff, and dealt with practice planning, training, and management of the pitching staff. Two current Bethany College baseball players played for May on the Cheyenne Grizzlies this past summer: Clayton Cozzitorto and Andrew Gomez. The previous summer, May was the assistant coach of the Grizzlies.

In 2013, May worked as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Pomona College. He was responsible for creating preseason strength and conditioning manuals for both pitchers and position players as well as the training, practice plans, video analysis, statistical analysis, and in-season preparation of the pitching staff.

Olan Ortiz enters his second season as an assistant coach for Swedes Baseball.





Anthony Flask

Assistant Coach


Anthony Flask enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Swedes. Flask comes to Bethany from Manhattan Christian College, where he served as head strength and conditioning coach and assistant baseball coach for five months.

In addition, Flask completed a two year internship with Kansas State University, which allowed him to study and work with student-athletes. Each strength program was unique to the sport and included baseball, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s tennis, rowing, cheer, and equestrian. Flask has also served as head junior varsity coach, head C Team coach, and head of strength and conditioning for one season at Wichita Northwest High School. He also spent two years as the volunteer head coach for the Halstead/Wichita area American Legion/Babe Ruth baseball teams. Flask’s squads made three trips to state, and finished as a runner-up twice.

Flask is a NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist, and is Red Cross CPR/AED certified. Flask holds an Associate of Arts in Kinesiology from Hutchinson Community College, and a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from Kansas State University.
